The Chilean Plastics Pact, Circula el Plástico, is the Chilean approach of the International Network of Plastic Pact, a global and unique initiative, in which the efforts of the organizations that participate in the different stages of the life cycle and ecosystem of plastic containers and packaging are united. The purpose is to change the current linear model to a circular one; reducing on the one hand the extraction of natural resources and on the other plastic waste, simultaneously preserving its value in the market with the highest quality and longest possible duration.

The PCP is made up of actors from the entire plastic value chain, that is; plastic suppliers, packaging and packaging suppliers, producers, retail, brands, local authorities, consumer associations, municipalities, waste management companies and recyclers, among others. In this way, it seeks to create an active collaboration platform in order to generate actions that achieve systematic impact.

In response to the current global urgency, the PCP has proposed four ambitious goals for the year 2025, where all members commit to align your efforts to achieve the following goals:

CHALLENGES

From the Chilean Plastics Pact, we understand that the path to a Circular Economy model must be approached in a systematic and collaborative way, where there is no single actor that is capable of promoting this transition alone. It is for this reason that we understand the importance of enabling a space where innovative solutions can be reached that allow increasing the circularity of plastic for Chile.

That is why Circula el Plástico together with Fundación Chile and ChileGlobal Ventures created an Open Innovation call, The Plastic Evolution, which in its first version will seek solutions associated with these 2 challenges:

CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS FOR PLASTIC PACKAGING

We seek circular, sustainable and disruptive solutions for containers and packaging that consider a circular design perspective, to make available a greater number of designs that facilitate the recycling, reuse or composting of these containers and packaging.

SOLUTIONS THAT ALLOW AN INCREASE RATE OF RECYCLING OF PLASTIC PACKAGING IN CONTACT WITH FOOD

We seek innovative and sustainable solutions that increase the collection of post-consumer material suitable for recycling.

The Chilean Plastics Pact (PCP, Pacto Chileno de los Plásticos) is an initiative led by Fundación Chile and the Ministry of the Environment, aimed at rethinking the way we currently produce, use and dispose of plastics, ensuring that this material continues to circulate in the system to avoid contaminating the environment.
Together with all the stakeholders in the value chain, including the public, private and civil sectors, it operates in a joint and articulated manner, generating collaboration and innovation to move towards a circular economy of plastics. Thus, from its scope of action, it promotes the enormous opportunity of creating value that is generated by this new approach, while addressing the prevention of problems resulting from the misuse of this key material.
